2 murder victims found in house
Police found two corpses showing signs of inflicted violence in a house in the Villa Kelapa Dua housing complex in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Monday.
The body of the house owner, Goni Kang, 50, was found near a back door and his maid's body was found in another room whose floor was marred with blood.
West Jakarta Police arrived at the crime scene after neighbors reported a strong smell coming from the widower's house.
"We suspect they died around three or four days ago," West Jakarta Police detective Comr. Suyudi Ario Seto told reporters at the scene.
He said police were still investigating a motive for murdering the owner of a Manado porridge restaurant and his maid.
The two bodies were brought to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital morgue in Central Jakarta to undergo a postmortem.
Suyudi said, in the preliminary investigation, police found signs of violence on the bodies, but they were still waiting for the autopsy results from the hospital to know the cause of death.
Supriyadi, a staff member at the morgue, told The Jakarta Post a man and a woman came to the morgue later in the evening to see the maid's body.
"They told me they were family members of the woman. They said, 'It looks like her'," he said.
He said they had trouble recognizing the victim, who has not yet been identified, as her body was already deteriorated.
The murder was the eighth case in this month alone. Eight murder cases were recorded in July according to media reports.
On Sunday, a woman, identified as Elis Irena Santoso, 35, tortured and killed her housemaid, Tarsinah, 29, in Elis' house on Jl. Jatipulo, Palmerah, a police report stated.
Palmerah Police have detained Elis as a suspect. [The Jakarta Post]
